4MP WGCC Globin PTZ Speed Dome with 18X Zoom – Unboxing, Setup & Review

• PTZ which stands for Pan, Tilt and Zoom. Through a remote user interface, you can turn the lens back and forth, up and down and zoom in and out.
• Two-way voice communication
• H265, which is a compressed video format for faster data transfers.
• ONVIF 2.6 which is compatibility across multiple devices, so you can use this camera on multiple brands of NVRs.

• User Manual – This is not a quick start guide. This camera is complicated and has a lot of features.  It talks about the different ways you can mount this camera (on a wall, corner or pole), logging into the web user interface, and setting up the scanning features.  Read the manual to take advantage of everything this camera offers.
• CD – It contains the manual in case you need a soft copy or want to search keywords. It also has software for remote access for Android.  I haven’t tried that yet, but I did use the IP & firmware management software for updating IP address and ports.  I’ll show you that in a minute.  There is also a tool called CMS on here for recording footage.  I haven’t used that, so cannot comment at this point.
• A 12v – 4a power adapter. This camera requires a lot of power, more than standard PoE can provide.  This adapter provides up to 25w the camera requires to run those big motors controlling the PTZ abilities.  I’d recommend an extension cable, like this one if you need to go a long distance and there is no power outlet nearby.  I’ll add that to my blog as well.
• Wow, check out with camera. It’s big (almost a foot high), solid metal and heavy.  Look at this lens, it’s massive!

• The mounting bracket is built in and the wires all exit though the back. Network and power cable.
• There are no alarm, speaker or mic wires, since this camera has 2-way communication and motion detection though the software.
• Aluminum shell housing.
• There is no dome cover over the camera, but it’s rated as IP66 weatherproof, so it should be ok. I wouldn’t try moving the lens if it’s coated in ice from a sleet or ice storm.  It’s rated for -40 degrees, so I’m happy with that.
• Unlike the other PTZ cameras I have featured on my channel, this one does pan or spin continuously. You don’t need to worry about having to pan all the way around to get to the other side, which to me, is a huge plus.
• 6 Infrared LEDs for night vision – we’ll test those out here in a bit. Since there is no dome cover, there shouldn’t be any IR glare which can sometimes occur if there isn’t a good separation sponge seal between the lens, IR lights and the dome.
• Light sensor to tell the camera to switch from daytime to nighttime modes.
• There is no weatherproof RJ45 or DC coupler.  Be sure to seal this up with some electrical tape if installing it outdoors.

On my PC, I’ll drop in the CD that came with the camera and open the IP management tool.  Hit Search to find the camera on your network.  In my case it’s the only one of this brand and on a different subnet.  I can update the IP address here to 192.168.0.94 to follow the sequence of IP addresses on my network.  I’ll also update the gateway, which is my router’s IP address to 192.168.0.1.

And I’ll update my ports.  You don’t need to do this.

Now, in Internet Explorer, I’ll navigate to that IP address and port.  The default username and password is admin and admin.
In order to see the live view or Browse as they call it, you will need to install the software to enable the feed.

My final software setup step is to update the default password.  Go to Setting – Manage Users.  Click the edit icon and enter the current password and the new one twice.  You will then be forced to log back into the web user interface.

And a quick comment on the web UI – it’s very responsive and has a lot of features.  It’s simple and it works.

On the live view page, you use these buttons for panning and tilting.  Here is a look at the actual footage.

Let’s see how far we can zoom in.  Nice!  Pretty impressive and it’s definitely optical zoom, not digital.

That example was in real-time.  The PTZ controls are very fast and responsive.  As soon as I click and direction or zoom, the results are instant.

Let’s see how this performs at night.  I’ll turn off all outside lights and the nightvision from my other cameras.  Here is a view with the IRs on and off.

Here is the zoom test we did earlier.  Remember it’s complete darkness here. We have no streetlights and I’m about 150ft away, that why the autofocus has to hunt a little.

Let’s pan all the way around and check out the quality of the picture on these trees.  Birds nest in these trees and I can’t wait for the spring to watch them day and night.  The daytime image is great, but the night vision is fantastic.
