Hey Guys, today we are plugging in my Hikvision 7616 NVR security camera recorder, configuring the basic setting and adding a camera for continuous recording. Model: DS-7616NI-I2/16P

This is the 7600 series NVR with 16 ports.  An NVR is a Network Video Recorder and used to capture footage from security cameras.  This is a follow up to my unboxing video and the video where I added a hard drive to this NVR.  For product details on where I picked up the hardware, check out my blog at NewfieBort.com, in the description below.

The NVR came with a mouse, power cord, and network cable, so let’s get that plugged in now.  I’ll be plugging mine into a UPS or a backup battery in case there is an electricity failure.  This will keep the recorder and cameras running as they will be powered over Ethernet or PoE.

This network cable from the NVR will be plugged into my switch or router so it can be assigned an IP address on my network.

I’m also going to plug in a brand-new camera here, into any of the PoE ports on the back.  Again, these ports transfer the data as well as supply the cameras with electricity so no power adapter is required to power the cameras.  This camera is not yet activated.  Other brands of cameras may not have an activation requirement; they may have a default password which you should change.  Those cameras will work with this NVR as long as they are ONVIF compatible.

The NVR did not however come with an HDMI cable, so you will have to supply your own.  The reason for this is because you can do the setup through the web browser by navigating to its IP address.  To find the IP address you’d need to plug it into your network and then open the Hikvsion SADP tool.

I’m running firmware V4.1.10 Build 171107.  This is the latest version, so I can’t upgrade today, but I will do so when the next build is released.  I’ll also be adding additional cameras to the NVR including my 18X zoom camera by Globin and showing how to export footage in future videos.  If you found this video helpful, please hit that like button and subscribe for more videos.
