Hey Guys, 2 bits of exciting news today!  I’m expanding my social media and unboxing this brand new Hikvision NVR.

First on the social media.  Newfiebort is now on Facebook.  Just another way we can stay connected and share my experiences on my tech projects.

Second of all, dedicated NVRs are an easy solution to recording your security footage.  I’m creating a bunch of videos demonstrating this solution, starting with this unboxing of this DS-7616NI-I2/16P.

These dedicated NVRs are a great solution to recording your security camera footage as they are an all-in-one solution.  It’s made for processing video feeds simultaneously and no need to worry about configuring a PC with the correct CPU speed, RAM and selecting and buying recording software, like BlueIris.  You can buy these with and without hard drives.  This one here, does not have one installed, but you can put in up to 2 X 6TB drives.  Also need to worry about buying the correct PoE switch to power your cameras, as the NVR will provide electricity to your cameras.  The PoE switch is built in.  Also, there are no cameras included in this package, but kits are available.  Or you can buy an NVR and different cameras types of your choice to make a kit.   I’ll put some of my recommendations of all-inclusive solutions.

Here are a few key features on this unit:

  1. Accepts HD Video – great since most camera output HD. To be exact, this unit accepts up to 12MP cameras.
  2. 3rd Party Cameras Accepted – Awesome, because I have a lot of different ones to try out.
  3. HDMI/VGA Out
  4. Gigabit NIC – No worries about network connection being a bottle.
  5. Live view on your cell or Internet
  6. User friendly interface and menus
  7. Smart search for finding motion events
  8. Ability to connect to Hik Cloud peer-to-peer for remote management

Here are the box contents:

  1. CD – As always, go grad the latest software (including manuals) from the Hikvision site.
  2. Quick start guide – definitely have a look. Lots of good information here but the online version is more complete and in color.  The link will be on my blog.
  3. Quick user guide – don’t waste your time, it only says install the hard drive, hook up your cameras and login into the device.
  4. Activation Warning – says there is no default password. You have to activate the device and create a password to use it.  It’s a Hikvision security feature forcing you to change the password.
  5. Power cord
  6. Little USB mouse
  7. Small remote control
  8. Network cable
  9. Small screws most likely for installing the hard drives
  10. SATA data and power cables for the hard drive
  11. NVR – uses less than 280 watts of power, depending on how many cameras you have hooked up and if you are using 1 or 2 SATA hard drives. It supports synchronous playback of 16 cameras in 1080p or 4 cameras in 4k.

There are no rack mounting ears which is a little disappointing.
