Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to Reolink’s E1 wireless outdoor PTZ 5mp security camera. It’s packed full of features and at a price far less than other PTZ camera I reviewed on this channel, so let’s check it out.
This unit cost about $120 US and often goes on sale, so check out my links below for their current pricing and coupon codes.
Here’s today’s menu:
- I’ll show you what’s in the box
- I’ll review the camera’s specs with some technical details
- Then we’ll add the camera to my Reolink account over Wifi
- And then, I’ll demonstrate the daytime and nighttime footage from some indoor and outdoor locations as well as check out the 2-way audio.
Before we end this video, we’ll do a siren test.

Next, I test the 2-way audio using my phone. There is a small lag, as expected, but for the most part, the quality is good and there are no breaks in the transmissions.
Here on my front steps, it’s bitterly cold at -30 degree Celsius (-22F). Let’s let it sit out here for a while and then check in on the footage. The motion detection is on and recording traffic as it drives by. Details look just fine, good detail of the snow getting captured and colors on this cloudy day look fine too. No missed frames or ghosting.
I have tracking turned off here won’t be using any PTZ functions as I don’t want to damage any of the internal components with this frigid temperature since the lowest operating temperature listed in the specs is -10c or 14f.
I have a thermal imager which captures a visual image of temperature and the actual temperature of the subject in the center of the screen. Here we are outside and OL means that the temperature has dipped below -30c or -22 Fahrenheit. Looks like the camera is able to tough it out and still produce a nice image.
The last test we’ll do is a siren test. It can be triggered by motion or but pushing this button on the app. Here we are at 100ft, yes, I can still hear it. Now at 200ft. Yup. Here we are at 300ft. Yup, I’ll can hear it, so not to bad at getting someone’s attention.
Alright guys, that concludes this video. I hope you enjoyed the unboxing, spec review, camera setup and location tests. If so, take a second and click on that thumbs up icon. In summary, if installing this camera outside, try to keep it somewhat protected from the elements hitting it directly. This camera’s night vision isn’t very strong in complete darkness when dealing with objects in the distance. They do however have the option of a spot light to help at night, which I think is pretty cool.
I also think, the daytime picture was perfect inside and outdoors. Connecting the camera to Wifi was super easy and throughout all my testing, I did not lose connectivity over Wifi. The PTZ features worked well and very responsive over my home network and cellular data. Overall, a decent camera for a smaller property then mine, good for driveways or yards up to 50ft or 15m, also great for inside keeping an eye on pets or moving around to temporary locations.
Ok, thanks guys. I also get coupon codes from Reolink, so I put a link to those in the description too. I have a few more videos on this camera coming out soon, so subscribe to be notified on more home tech projects you can do yourself. Thanks for watching.
